Services

The Grafton Police Department is a full service Police Agency.  The Department is headed by Chief Jim Brearey, a veteran police officer with more than 28 years of service and experience.  His staff is composed of a full-time Lieutentant and three additional full-time officers.  In addition to the full-time officers the department has 3 additional part-time officers.  The dispatch center is composed of 3 full-time dispatchers and 2 part-time dispatchers.  The Police Department is augmented by 7 member Auxiliary Unit.

The Police Officers main duty is to protect and serve the citizens of the Village of Grafton.  The Police Department currently has 4 patrol vehicles and 2 Police bicycles.  In addition to the normal functions of code and traffic enforcement, the Police Department offers a number of services to the residents.  The following is a list of services available to Village residents without cost:

Request must be made through the Office of the Chief of Police.

Fingerprinting, officers will fingerprint residents who are required to be checked for employment purposes.  We will also fingerprint your children for identification purposes and the parents will retain the child’s fingerprints. 

Bicycle Registration, bicycle registrations are available at the police department.  Please stop by the police station for a registration form bring your bike to be inspected.

Safety Town, Every summer the department, in cooperation with the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, instructs children who are about to enter kindergarten in the Safety Town Program.  Safety education is also taught in the Elementary School through programs provided by the National Child Safety Council. 

Police Station Tours, are available to scouts, civic groups or individuals.  You can arrange for a tour by contacting the Office of the Chief of Police. 

“Ride-along Program”, arrangements can be made for any resident, eighteen years of age or older, to “ride along” with an officer in one of the Village Police vehicles.  Request must be made through the Office of the Chief of Police.
