Liz Coey, Director

Brunswick Little Bears

 

Ms. Liz, A.A.S., has over 21 years of child Care experience as both a Teacher and Director.  She began her career primarily as a Toddler Teacher but has worked with all licensed age groups, in addition to being a Director for the past 12 years.

 

Liz joined the staff of Little Bears in Medina in 1995 as a Lead Toddler Teacher, and was named the Brunswick Center Director later that fall. Elementary Art and Music  have been longstanding interests for curriculum development.

 

Ms. Liz has attended several National Director’s Conferences in Child Care as well as yearly Director’s Training classes.  As an authorized Red Cross Trainer, Liz trains all Little Bears staff in First Aid and Infant/Child CPR as well as Adult CPR.

 

Paula Phillips, Director

Medina Little Bears

 

When the Medina Center opened in 1994 Ms. Paula was there as one of our founding teachers!  Paula has over 16 years of professional experience in Early Childhood Education as a Teacher, Assistant Director and Director.

 

Ms Paula earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, and has worked with all age groups, with an emphasis on Infant Development.

 

All three of Ms. Paula’s children have attended Little Bears since Infants, and currently are in the School-Age Program.

 

In her free time she enjoys sports (especially football), downhill skiing, scrapbooking, and attending her children’s activities.

 

 


Mark James, Administrator/Owner

 

Mr. Mark has over 16 years experience working as a Child Care Administrator.  Mark has a specific interest in the summer school-age camp run by both centers, and developed the current format used at both buildings which feature theme-based curriculums incorporating a wide variety of field-trips for children ages 6-11.  Little Bears Child Care Center was the first area center to offer extensive field trip experiences extending From Canton to Cleveland.  Each summer there are over 120 field trips between the three summer camp groups.

 

Prior to establishing Little Bears Child Care Centers in 1990, Mark worked as a Therapist and Researcher for 9 years.  Holding an Undergraduate Degree in Music Therapy/Music Education, a Masters Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, publishing over 30 articles, and serving as a Consulting Editor of The Journal of Music Therapy, Mark has an excellent background for program development, staff supervision, and overall facility management.

 

Mark has been employed at Laurelwood Psychiatric Hospital, New Castle State Hospital, CPV Valle Vista Hospital, and Elizabeth General Medical Center.

 

Mark has been married for 22 years and his three children all attended Little Bears.  His hobbies include scuba diving, kayaking, skiing, cooking, and reading.
