To:  All MSL Coaches

From:  Laurie Haas, President

Regarding:  Risk of Movable Soccer Goal Tip over (Goal Safety Policy)

The Ohio Youth Soccer Association North has recommended that all soccer leagues implement a Goal Safety policy because of a risk of a movable soccer goal tipping over and injuring a child.  There is a case of an 8 year old child climbing up a goal post and when the goal tipped over he was fatally injury when the goal struck him on the head.

Midview Soccer League is requiring that all coaches make a physical inspection of each goal prior to a game, or a practice, to assure that goals are securely anchored.

Also, we are asking that you notify all parents and guardians about the dangers of unsecured goals and the parents’ responsibility to keep kids away from goals.  If a parent notices a goal is not secured, ask that they notify you immediately.

Finally, please notify your players of the necessity not playing, climbing or moving the goals.  Players violating this rule may, at the coaches’ discretion, sit out a half game or entire game.  Players consistently violating the rule can be subject to a disciplinary hearing of the Board.

As a coach and board member, I will be checking goal posts at the Chamberlain fields.

If you are unsure about the how a goal should be properly anchored, please contact me, or Jason Smith, who is in charge of equipment.

Thanks for helping us have a safe season.
